The private railway operator Westbahn will run a daily pair of courses between Vienna-Westbahnhof and Bregenz from December 10, 2023. The offer is expected to double next year.

Due to the enormous distance between the two cities, one set will remain in the “Nightstopp” in Bregenz. From there we head towards the federal capital Vienna in the morning. In the opposite direction, trains in Vienna-West start in the afternoon and reach Bregenz in the late evening.

"We made it! By extending the route to Vorarlberg, the Westbahn is now integrating all federal states along the western route into its national mobility offer. Our regional approach with stops in eleven Vorarlberg train stations gives more than 200.000 Vorarlbergers direct access to long-distance rail transport. By serving Bregenz, Dornbirn, Hohenems, Altach, Götzis, Rankweil, Feldkirch, Frastanz, Nenzing, Bludenz and Langen am Arlberg, 50 percent of the Vorarlberg population has the chance of sustainable and comfortable connections along the west-east axis to Vienna “, without the hassle of changing trains,” says Managing Director Thomas Posch.

The Tyrolean Oberland also benefits from the connection: on the way from Vorarlberg to Vienna, the Western Railway also stops in St. Anton am Arlberg, Landeck-Zams, Imst-Pitztal and Telfs-Pfaffenhofen. For Telfs, this means the only direct connection to the federal capital without having to change trains. The route is to be served with the existing Stadler Kiss III trains, which have well over 500 seats.

In order to make the new offer known in Vorarlberg, there will be presentations on November 24th and 25th, 2023. On the first mentioned day, State Governor Markus Wallner and State Councilor Daniel Zadra as well as Westbahn managing directors Thomas Posch and Florian Kazalek will carry out the first trip from Bregenz to Dornbirn and back together with invited guests.

On November 25, 2023, the general public can get to know the Westbahn free of charge. Free travel is offered between Bregenz and Feldkirch. Kazalek says: “The trains will start in Bregenz at around 10:00 a.m. and 14:00 p.m. and in Feldkirch at around 11:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. Anyone interested can find all the details about the program on our website westbahn.at/vorarlberg and our social media channels. See you on the train.”

According to Westbahn, the cheapest ticket from Vienna to Bregenz costs 23,99 euros. Sales began earlier this week. The trips to the state capital of Vorarlberg represent the third network expansion in a comparatively short period of time. For years, the company “only” traveled between Vienna and Salzburg. First they extended it to Munich, shortly thereafter Innsbruck was added and from December 10, 2023 We also offer trips to/from Bregenz
