The Armenian airline startup Fly Arna will initially start with two Airbus A320s, which will be stationed in Yerevan. The company said it initially wants to station targets in Russia, Central Asia and the Middle East. The first flight is scheduled for May 2022.
Behind Fly Airna are the Armenian National Interests Fund with a stake of 51 percent and the Air Arabia Group with 49 percent. The first Airbus A320 aircraft are to come from Air Arabia stocks. A third aircraft is to follow a few weeks after the start of flight operations.
It has not yet been decided whether the aircraft intended for further expansion will be sourced from Air Arabia's inventories or whether used or new aircraft will be bought or leased on the open market. According to Air Arabia boss Adel Ali, the relevant votes are still ongoing, with offers already being obtained.
Anif boss David Papazian stressed during a press conference that Fly Arna should start without government subsidies. Asked about the fact that the European Union still has Armenia and its Aviation Authority blacklisted, the manager said that this issue should be addressed to the Civil Aviation Authority, but added that intensive talks are already underway and a solution is being sought problem is very close.
