On February 2, 2025, a United Airlines Airbus A319, flight 1382 from Houston to New York La Guardia, had to abort its takeoff run at Houston Intercontinental Airport. The abort was due to an engine problem that occurred during acceleration on runway 15R. The pilots decided to abort the takeoff for safety reasons and the passengers and crew left the aircraft on the runway, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.
According to media reports, the takeoff run was well underway when the abort occurred. The FAA stated that no further details were available on the exact engine problem. Despite the incident, the evacuation went smoothly and no injuries were reported. The exact cause of the problem is currently being investigated by United Airlines in cooperation with the authorities.
This incident occurred at a time when United Airlines was already subject to increased oversight by the FAA. In 2024, the airline was subject to more intensive scrutiny following several technical incidents during fleet growth and network expansion. However, these measures were discontinued in October 2024 as no significant safety issues were identified.
