In the coming 2024/2025 winter season, travelers at Innsbruck Airport can look forward to a new, attractive flight connection: The Latvian airline Air Baltic is adding a direct route between Innsbruck and Riga to its flight schedule for the first time.

The company recently announced this, and the new connection will be offered every Sunday from December 22, 2024 to March 23, 2025. For the connection, Air Baltic will use the modern Airbus A220-300, which has not yet been seen at Innsbruck Airport.

Riga, the largest city in the Baltics and the capital of Latvia, has become an increasingly popular destination for city breaks in recent years. With a population of around 600.000 people, the city offers not only cultural diversity, but also a rich history and a lively atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the world.

For Innsbruck Airport, the new route represents a significant expansion of its winter flight program. It opens up new opportunities, particularly for tourism and the region's economy. Mario Gerber, State Minister for Tourism and Economic Affairs, emphasizes the positive effects on Tyrolean tourism and the local economy. He sees the direct connection as an opportunity to attract winter sports enthusiasts from Riga to Tyrol and to invite Tyroleans to explore the cultural and economic opportunities in Riga.

Innsbruck's mayor Johannes Anzengruber is also pleased about the new connection to the Baltic region. He emphasizes that the direct scheduled connection is not only of interest to winter sports tourism, but also brings new impetus to city tourism and the ski areas around Innsbruck. The expansion of the flight offer is therefore seen as an enrichment for the entire region.

Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism, shares this enthusiasm and sees the new route to Riga as an opportunity to expand the catchment area to include another important destination. She emphasizes that Riga, as the economic and logistical center of the Baltics, represents an important market that will now be directly connected to Innsbruck. The combination of skiing and city offers a unique travel experience for visitors from Latvia and residents of the Innsbruck region alike.

Thomas Ramdahl, Senior Vice President for Network Management, commented on the new route on behalf of Air Baltic. He stressed the importance of expanding Air Baltic's presence in Austria and is pleased about the partnership with Innsbruck Airport. The new connection will not only offer travelers the opportunity to discover vibrant Riga, but will also strengthen Air Baltic's positioning as the leading airline in the Baltics.

Overall, the new flight connection between Innsbruck and Riga is seen as a significant step in the development of Innsbruck Airport. It not only contributes to strengthening regional economic relations, but also opens up new horizons for the tourism sector in Tyrol and beyond.
