The airlines Air Cairo and SunExpress are extending their cooperation, which has existed for some time, by another three years. Egypt flights from the DA-CH region are affected, which the Turkish airline is not allowed to operate itself due to the lack of an EU AOC.

As part of the ITB, which is currently taking place in Berlin, the two companies signed a declaration of intent to continue their cooperation for another three years. The new LOI is in addition to an existing overarching three-year agreement signed earlier in 2023.

“We are very pleased that we can extend our successful partnership with SunExpress for another three years. This is not only a success for both companies, but above all for Egyptian tourism. Together with SunExpress and our large domestic route network, we want to open Egypt even further for visitors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland to present Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel or the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo (near Sphinx Airport). This year we are targeting one million passengers on our international flights between Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm El Sheik and German-speaking countries,” said Hussein Sherif, CEO and Chairman of Air Cairo.

In the course of the closure of SunExpress Germany, a partner had to be found, because the Turkish AOC is not allowed to operate non-stop flights between the Federal Republic of Germany and Egypt. They found what they were looking for at the Egyptair subsidiary Air Cairo. This resulted in a sales cooperation that now includes 87 weekly flights from 15 airports in the DA-CH region to Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh. In the future, domestic flights, i.e. connections, within Egypt will also be sold through the cooperation.

“Our collaboration has proven to be a 'perfect match' right from the start! Together with Air Cairo, we have been able to expand our partnership over the past two years to such an extent that we now serve 15 different airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The flight plan was developed in close cooperation with the sales partners in order to be able to respond to customer requests in the best possible way. We expect around one million passengers who will benefit from the combination of a reliable Egyptian inflight product and hospitality, as well as SunExpress' professional market expertise. We are excited to see what the future holds for us,” said Peter Glade, SunExpress' Chief Commercial Officer.
