Over ten billion euros have already flowed into the listed Air France-KLM merger. But more is needed. Negotiations about this are not really getting going.
Talks between the French and Dutch governments about further financial aid for Air France-KLM are slow. And that since last year. Because the government representatives have been grappling with it since November. So far without any success. Another six billion euros are under discussion, reports the AeroIt could be because both sides are not seeking a joint solution. Instead, they are only looking out for themselves. The Dutch would like to put their money directly into KLM and leave Air France out. The French side has also recently been making nationalist tones to the public: "Air France-KLM is not a real group, they share a few parts of their business and the Dutch have a lot of power," said Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Secretary of State in the French Ministry of Transport, in October. "The question is what we should do and whether we should do it together."
