Airbus: Negotiations with IG Metall postponed without result

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The first round of negotiations between Airbus and IG Metall ended with no result on Thursday. On October 2, 2020, the employer and the union will meet again for talks.

Airbus intends to cut around 3.000 jobs in Germany. However, IG Metall is of the opinion that this can be avoided by means of short-time work. In collective bargaining, the union takes the view that as many jobs as possible must be saved. The aircraft manufacturer expects a prolonged slump in terms of orders and wants to cut around 15.000 jobs worldwide. Both sides described the first round of talks as "constructive".
