Airport Association ADV calls for digitization and standardization of evidence

The airport association calls for standardized regulations for international travel. This is the only way to make traveling easier.

Despite all the joy about the opening of the USA in the coming days, ADV CEO Ralph Beisel is calling for globally uniform entry regulations to be finally laid down. The current patchwork of entry requirements, both within the European Union and beyond, would slow the long-awaited recovery.

“Ultimately, a fully digitized global standard for health monitoring will be essential to enable airports and airlines to cope with the gradual increase in passenger numbers. Digitized evidence enables you to return to online check-in for international flights. In addition, additional digitization options and biometric processes offer a perspective for accelerating security and border controls. Checking the health status of a passenger via the digital travel pass or other apps is correct and time-saving, ”explains Beisel.

Revitalization of the US market crucial for economically impaired industry

Airlines, private service providers, authorities and airports are still struggling with the economic damage caused by the corona pandemic - even if the reports from full terminals give a different impression. The situation is and will remain tense. Compared to 2019, the number of passengers in KW 42 is 54,9 percent. In other words, every second passenger is still missing compared to the pre-Corona level.

This means that airport revenues are currently half of the pre-crisis level. German airports had to accept EUR 2020 billion in pre-tax losses in 2,1 (after EUR 800 million profit in 2019). For the current year 2021, the airport association ADV predicts a loss for all German airports of 1,5 billion euros. Airlines, service providers and airports are still a long way from cost-covering flight operations.
