The Verdi union has the employees of the private service providers at the aviation security checks called for a strike. The so-called warning strike should last a whole day. The airport association ADV criticized the call for a strike as "disproportionate and exaggerated".
The airports in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig/Halle are affected. In fact, the airlines had to cancel a high three-digit number of flight connections. Tens of thousands of passengers are affected and cannot take their scheduled flight. The airport association ADV criticized the call for a strike. "We appeal to the collective bargaining partners to seek an agreement at the negotiating table on the disputed points," says ADV CEO Ralph Beisel in the morning.
“The duration and scope of the strikes are disproportionate and ruthless. I have absolutely no understanding that Verdi is carrying out the strikes at the expense of travellers, airlines and airports. Once again, the airports are being misused as the scene of a labor dispute in which they are not even a party to the collective bargaining agreement. The all-day warning strike also comes at a time when the airports are still suffering from high corona-related losses,” said Ralph Beisel on the warning strikes.
All travelers are strongly advised to check with their respective airlines to ensure the flight is operating and allow sufficient time on site.
