The Icelandic startup Niceair has presented the first routes that they want to be served from Akureyri. These are Copenhagen, London-Stansted and Tenerife South. These destinations are to be flown to at low frequency from the beginning of June 2022.
Since Niceair starts as a so-called virtual airline, i.e. without an AOC and operating license, the operational implementation is formally carried out as charter flights. The operating carrier will be the Maltese airline Hifly Malta with Airbus A319. Other airlines had previously been in talks, but the Maltese airline was able to prevail in the tender.
On behalf of Niceair, there will be twice-weekly commutes between Akureyri and Copenhagen between June 2, 2022 and an estimated September 29, 2022. From June 3, 2022, London-Stansted will be served at the same frequency. This route is provisionally limited until September 30, 2022. Tenerife South is on the flight schedule once a week from June 8, 2022 to September 28, 2022. Niceair wants to present numerous other destinations that are to be offered from the lesser-known Icelandic airport in the coming weeks.
