Avanti Air starts charter flights from Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt Airport is currently in extremely turbulent times, because just a few days ago it was not possible to pay the wages of the employees, the public sector became the majority owner again due to the fact that Lilihill did not participate in the capital increase, and politicians made the decision that the call option will be exercised and that the airport will again be fully owned by the city of Klagenfurt and the state of Carinthia. A first flight report from the state capital is almost "unspectacular".

According to its own information, Klagenfurt Airport has been used by around 55.000 passengers since the beginning of the year. A few more are to be added on the charter flights organized by Springer Reisen. On Friday, May 26, 2023, the first flight of the charter chain to Skiathos started. Paros follows on Saturday. The operational implementation is carried out by the German airline Avanti Air with de Havilland Dash 8-400. The turboprop aircraft will be stationed in Graz over the summer of 2023 and will also be used for Springer Reisen from Klagenfurt via the charter routes. In Styria, Avanti Air also flies for Rhomberg Reisen.

While in the past direct flights to the Greek island of Naxos were offered, at least from Styria, the machines land on the neighboring island of Paros. There are technical reasons for this, because the de Havilland Dash 8-400 is not allowed to land at Naxos Airport, as it is not suitable for this type of machine. The de Havilland Dash 8-300 used in the past by Tyrolean Airways and later InterSky was quite different, because they had Stol capabilities. However, these were always direct flights because a refueling stop was necessary due to the distance. The terms “direct flight” and “non-stop flight” are often confused with one another. In contrast to a non-stop flight, which goes from A to B without a scheduled stopover, a direct flight can have any number of stopovers (including boarding and disembarking) as long as the flight number remains the same.

Springer travelers who have booked Naxos from Austria land on the neighboring island of Paros and are transported from there to their destination by ship transfer, which should take around 20 minutes. The Paros flights will be offered from Klagenfurt until September 2023.

"We've been flying to Naxos for thirty years," explains Springer CEO Andrea Springer. “Our guests appreciate direct routes, short waiting times, manageable airports and short flight times. In less than two hours flight from Klagenfurt directly to the Greek island paradise!” enthuses the Greece specialist.

Other charter destinations that will be offered from Carinthia Airport in summer 2023 are Paphos and Lamezia Terme, which are organized by Hitreise. On the line, Ryanair controls the destinations Alicante, Palma de Mallorca and London-Stansted. The international military music festival in the Klagenfurt stadium also brought guests to Carinthia via Klagenfurt Airport.
