Berlin-Brandenburg Airport was able to handle more than one million passengers in July and August 2021. Most recently there were around 1,43 million travelers. The busiest day to date was on September 17, 2021 with around 60.000 passengers. The airport company assumes that the current traffic level will remain stable until the end of October.

Regarding the economic situation of the airport company, the management reported that FBB's liquidity was secured until February 2022. She informed the Supervisory Board about the continuation of the austerity measures. Only the investments that are absolutely necessary for operation are made. The structurally completed Terminal 2, which is in "slumber mode", will no longer be put into operation this year due to the lack of passengers. The two runways will be operated alternately until further notice. In addition, short-time work has been extended until December.

Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, who will hand over the chairmanship of the management to Aletta von Massenbach and will retire at the end of September, was passed by the Supervisory Board. On behalf of the supervisory board and the shareholders, the chairman of the supervisory board, Jörg Simon Lütke Daldrup, thanked him for turning the long-standing construction site of BER into a functioning airport.

Jörg Simon, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “In order to relieve FBB's financially strained situation, strict expenditure control is still required while the company continues to develop. In its January meeting, the Supervisory Board will deal intensively with the corporate strategy, which provides orientation in the recovery phase and establishes BER as a strong international airport for the capital region. "

Aletta von Massenbach, Commercial Director: “The increasing number of passengers is basically a positive development. However, they pose challenges for the airport, especially under Corona conditions. Making the processes around departure and arrival even smoother and more reliable is one of our most important tasks on the long way to make BER economically successful. "

Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Today, more than 60.000 passengers are counted at BER. Step by step, normality is finally returning, although winter will be difficult again due to Corona. The task now is to optimize the terminal and the processes in a targeted manner so that BER functions even better than it already does when traffic continues to increase. I am convinced that BER will meet the expectations that the capital region has of it in the future. Having contributed to getting BER on this path is the highlight of my professional career. "
