The government terminal at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport has long been disputed. The new finance minister Christian Lindner (FDP) considers the existing temporary building to be completely sufficient and speaks out against the construction of a “representative government terminal”.

So far, the German Foreign Ministry has always taken the line that you need a representative building to travel to government members and to receive state guests. In the past, critics referred to the building plans as “Protzbau”. Finance Minister Lindner is now appealing to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) that she should refrain from this BER project.

The FDP politician considers the current interim terminal, which is ready to fly and in which state guests are also received, to be appropriate and sufficient. Furthermore, Lindner believes that the decision not to build a new building is an important signal to taxpayers, as it would then show the careful use of financial resources. Up until now, money has never played a particularly important role at BER Airport, as the costs of building Terminal 1 have gotten out of hand for years.
