Breeze: David Neeleman wants the A220-300 with more range

Actually, Breeze founder David Neeleman is enthusiastic about the Airbus A220-300. But as far as the range is concerned, something still needs to be done. The installation of an additional tank should enable the low-cost airline to head for destinations that are currently outside the range.

It is a very complex process, because such modifications have to be approved by the responsible aviation authorities. Neeleman is of the opinion that this will also be easier and quicker to do. He refers to the executive model of the Airbus A220, the ACJ TwoTwenty. This will be equipped with an additional tank to increase the range and that is exactly what could be transferred to the traffic model. Saves time, saves money and is just theory for the time being.

The Breeze boss's idea is not absurd, however, because he explains to Simple Flying that they are already in talks with Airbus. He emphasizes that the European aircraft manufacturer is already developing additional tanks for the A220-100 and the business jet variant. So it would be obvious that Breeze is interested in an A220-300 with an increased range.

The reason for this should also be clear: Neeleman never made a secret of the fact that in the long term he could imagine that Breeze Airways could also offer long-haul flights. For example to Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The range of the Airbus A220-300 is currently insufficient for this. There have been rumors in the industry for a long time that the European manufacturer would like to make the A220 suitable for long distances in order to be able to offer a narrowbody alternative in addition to the A321LR / XLR.
