A fully automated sales point is being built in the area of Pier A at Brussels Airport. This is operated jointly by Lagardère Travel Retail Belgium and Atos.

This new technological concept, based on the use of interactive furniture and 3D cameras (lidar), allows the automatic recognition of the products chosen by passengers. After entering the point of sale by scanning the boarding pass, passengers are free to choose their favorite items. These are put together in a virtual basket the moment they pass through the payment terminal. Passengers can then review the details of their shopping cart, complete the transaction with their credit card, and exit the point of sale with the items purchased.

After a few weeks of testing, this outlet, dubbed “Quick N' Easy”, is now offering Brussels Airport passengers a range of best-selling Belgian beers and chocolates.

“It has always been very important for Lagardère Travel Retail to innovate in the use of technologies related to its core business. Thanks to the support of Brussels Airport, Atos' technological expertise and our retail experience, we were able to develop this new concept in a very short time. Terminal A passengers will be surprised by the easy way of working and the completely new shopping experience. By offering this new automated point of sale at the airport, Lagardère Travel Retail is underscoring its role as a trendsetter,” says Nicolas Van Brandt – CEO Lagardère Travel Retail Belgium.
