Several drone sightings temporarily disrupted flight operations at Cologne/Bonn Airport on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. According to the Federal Police, up to five unmanned aerial vehicles were registered in the vicinity of the airport throughout the day, though it remained unclear whether these were different objects or the same model that had been sighted repeatedly.

Eurowings cancels and suspends flights at several German airports

German airline Eurowings is making significant adjustments to its route network for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter flight season. According to industry sources, the Lufthansa subsidiary is reducing its flight offerings to a total of six routes from its hubs in Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, and Munich to Southeast Europe. Destinations in Croatia and Bosnia are affected by these measures.

Leave Aviation launches flights from Cologne/Bonn to Aleppo

German charter airline Leav Aviation will establish a new flight connection from Cologne/Bonn Airport to Aleppo starting August 17, 2026. Two weekly non-stop flights are planned – on Mondays and Saturdays – with a flight time of approximately four hours. An Airbus A320-200 aircraft will be used.

According to a press release from its parent company, Kolibri Beteiligung GmbH, the transaction was handled through a financing partner specializing in the aviation industry and was conducted at market-standard terms. With this move, the company is fulfilling its investment objectives.

Dispute over digital member recruitment: Vereinigung Cockpit sues Lufthansa before the Cologne Labor Court

The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit has filed a lawsuit against Deutsche Lufthansa AG at the Cologne Labor Court. The dispute concerns access to the company email addresses of the airline group's pilots for the purpose of recruiting new members. Vereinigung Cockpit had previously requested, out of court, that the employer cease sending its own informational emails to the company's email system.
