Sundair expands charter business from Leipzig/Halle

Economic pressure in Saxony: Lufthansa withdraws ground staff from Leipzig and Dresden

The Lufthansa Group is making drastic cuts at the Saxon airports Leipzig/Halle and Dresden, laying off all its ground staff at these locations. Around 130 employees at the Group subsidiaries Airport Services Leipzig GmbH (ASL) and Airport Services Dresden GmbH (ASD) are affected by the measure. Air freight in Germany is struggling with staff shortages

The Association of German Air Cargo Handlers (VACAD) reported an increase in cargo volume for the second quarter of 2025. The volume handled increased by 3,7 percent to approximately 452.395 tons. At the same time, the number of employees in the industry fell by seven percent to 3.180. This development is a concern for the association.

Bundeswehr Airbus had to make an emergency landing in Leipzig

A German Armed Forces Air Force aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Leipzig on Monday evening. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, had previously been carrying Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD), who had deplanet in Berlin before the incident.
