Spielwarenmesse led to increased demand at Nuremberg Airport

Last week, the traditional toy fair took place in Nuremberg. The increased demand led to some carriers using larger aircraft than usual. Turkish Airlines is using the Airbus A330 with 289 seats instead of the usual A321 with 190 or the Boeing 737-800 with 165 seats. British Airways is increasing its flights to London Heathrow from four weekly to up to three daily connections during the fair. Air France is increasing the frequency during the fair week by more than 20 percent to three to five daily connections to Paris Charles de Gaulle. Lufthansa is offering four daily flights to the Frankfurt hub for transfer passengers, using Airbus A319 and Bombardier CRJ 900, among others. Lufthansa Group launches new app

A new Lufthansa app is intended to simplify travel with the crane group in the future. According to the company, it is designed to act as a "digital travel companion" and should provide regular information about the trip from booking to arrival. Lufthansa does not seem to be only interested in providing updates on the flight; the press release also mentions that "suitable offers will be provided via push notifications". This indicates that the company wants to open up an additional sales channel. With the launch of the new Lufthansa app, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Swiss are using a joint app solution for the first time. It is now available in the Apple App Store for iOS from version 14 and in the Google Play Store for Android from version 5.

Aegean is adding more decentralized routes

The Greek Star Alliance member Aegean Airlines is launching further new routes in the 2023 summer flight schedule. These are decentralized routes that will be launched outside the main hub in Athens. In the future, Tel Aviv will also be served from Chania, Kalamata and Mykonos. The three new routes will be served for the first time on May 15 and 16, 2023 and will be served once or twice a week. From Heraklion, Aegean Airlines will set course for Larnaka from June 1, 2023. Beirut will follow on June 13, 2023. The latter destination will also be offered from Mykonos from June 21, 2023. From Thessaloniki, there will also be new flights to Tbilisi from June 2, 2023.

Survey: Around 62 percent of Austrians are planning solo vacations

A survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line has shown that around two thirds of Austrians are planning to travel alone this year. Of these, around 20 percent have already booked a trip. Not only singles (55%) are opting for this, but increasingly people in a committed relationship as well. Almost three quarters (74%) of all people in a relationship and 68% of all married people are interested in a solo trip. This year, more men (69%) than women (56%) are also planning to travel alone. A lack of fellow travelers (4%) is rarely the reason for this; rather, their own intrinsic motives play a greater role for those surveyed. A majority say that freedom (35%), gaining their own experiences (35%), discovering new places (32%), trying something new (25%), building their own self-confidence (23%) and self-discovery (29%) are decisive factors for a solo vacation.

Entry: Qatar requires international health insurance

Since February 1, 2023, proof of international health insurance must be provided to enter Qatar. This can be purchased online when applying for an electronic visa and costs the equivalent of around 14 euros. Only policies from insurance companies that have been officially accredited are recognized. Travelers should therefore first check on the homepage of the Ministry of the Interior whether any existing insurance is recognized by Qatar. In this case, the policy can be uploaded when applying for a visa. Otherwise, it is possible to take out separate insurance during the application process.

FlyOne sets course for Berlin and Munich

The low-cost airline FlyOne plans to expand mainly towards Western Europe in the 2023 summer flight schedule. Among other things, new routes to Berlin and Munich are being added from Chișinău. The German capital is to be served on Thursdays and Sundays from May 18, 2023. From June 28, 2023, flights to Munich will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Anadolujet: Flight connection to Izmir does not start as planned

Jazeera Airways launches new flight route to Moscow

Kuwaiti low-cost airline Jazeera Airways has launched a new route to Moscow to meet the growing demand for flights between the Middle East and Russia. According to Jazeera Airways CEO Rohit Ramachandran, the company expects high demand on this route from day one, as there are few flights to Moscow at this time.
