“Sandyq Astana”: Traditional dining experience in a modern building

The staff of the “Sandyq” restaurant greets customers in traditional Kazakh clothing as they enter the restaurant. This is the first small taste of the fact that you will be immersed in the cultural tradition of the ninth largest country in the world in a state-of-the-art building. “Sandyq” is a Kazakh restaurant chain that is in the upper middle class and offers traditional food and drinks in various cities. The focus is on so-called experience gastronomy, i.e. a visit to the restaurant should be a special event for the guest. “Sandyq” has not had a presence in Astana until now. Just a few weeks ago, a new branch was opened at Sarayshyq St 34/3. It is located on several floors in a state-of-the-art building. In Astana there are generally very few real old buildings, as most of the buildings were only built after 1997. At that time, the former Aqmola became the new capital of Kazakhstan and since then the city of Astana, which was briefly renamed Nursultan, has been expanding steadily and this growth process is not yet complete. A provincial town has become a metropolis. Kazakh tradition in a modern building The “Sandyq” is a restaurant that places great value on conveying Kazakh traditions. It would be more authentic to stay in a rustic old building, but that is simply not possible in Astana because there are hardly any real old buildings. Everything is recently built and accordingly modern. But the operators have found a solution and simply installed a second, heavy wooden door in a traditional design behind the actual entrance door. Unique sparkling wine collection presented by Christina Hugl

Austrian winemaker Christina Hugl has launched a previously unique project with her new "Rieden-Cuvée Sektbox". She vinified Grüner Veltliner from three renowned vineyards - the Kamptal, Weinviertel and Wachau - as a "Große Reserve" sparkling wine. The sparkling wines, which are clearly influenced by their terroir, were produced using traditional methods and aged in the bottle for four years. The exclusive sparkling wine box is limited to 300 pieces and will be available from October 22, 2024. The price is 148 euros per box. Christina Hugl explains that the terroir has the greatest influence on the characteristics of the sparkling wine. Each of the three sparkling wines is individual: the sparkling wine from the Ried Grub (Kamptal) is fruity and spicy, that from the Ried Kollmütz (Wachau) is mineral and taut, while the sparkling wine from the Ried Hermannschachern (Weinviertel) is particularly spicy and full-bodied. The sparkling wines were presented in Vienna on October 21st and showed their potential as versatile food accompaniments.

Worlds of enjoyment transformed MAK into a gourmet temple

This weekend, the event rooms of the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts were all about specialties from all over the world. From regional bakeries to producers and traders who had traveled far, pretty much everything was represented. Gourmets were able to taste a lot of things and, if they wanted, buy or order them straight away. The "Vienna World of Pleasure" describes itself as a "festival for connoisseurs and gourmets". The motto also gave a small preview of what visitors could expect, as only high-quality goods were on display and offered for tasting. Whether it was organic eggs, fish, wine or liqueurs, everything was there to see, taste and, of course, buy. Special olive oils and oils were also on offer. Although the organizer advertises "culinary delights from all over the world", the focus was clearly on local products from small producers and traders. Some of them traveled very far to draw attention to themselves at the trade fair and, of course, to be able to sell as much as possible. But there was no pressure to sell. No exhibitor had a problem with people just wanting to taste something. Small and micro-enterprises represented For some manufacturers and producers, it was also the first time that they had presented themselves live to a wider public at such an event, as some companies are still young and therefore new to the market. Others are old hands who have been relying on direct sales at markets, through regional retailers or, in recent years, increasingly on mail order for decades. In the area of thirst quenchers,

Fully grilled around Neugebäude Castle

The area around Neugebäude Castle, which is located in Vienna's eleventh district, was all about the grill this weekend, as this year's "Vienna BBQ Days" took place. Neugebäude Castle is one of the lesser-known historical buildings in the Austrian capital. But for an event that is mainly about fresh food from the grill, this is definitely an advantage, because the spacious area offered the exhibitors plenty of space to prepare delicacies. There were both catering establishments that sold all kinds of grilled food from their stands and food trucks, as well as manufacturers of grills, knives and so on, who demonstrated their products live. Accordingly, there was usually the opportunity to see how a sausage or a chop tastes from the potential new dream grill. The event was rounded off by numerous specialist lectures that were spread over the two days of the event. From Thermomix to wellness food to the best way to prepare meat for the grill, visitors were able to find out everything they needed to know. The experts were available afterwards for technical discussions and, of course, to pass on a few professional tips. The highlight of the Vienna BBQ Days were various competitions, one of which involved sausage. Visitors had the opportunity to taste the participants' creations for five euros per portion. The entrance fee included a drink, which could be picked up at the so-called VIP counter. Another part of the event took place inside Schloss Neugebäude.

Whisky turns the MQ into a trade fair palace again

This weekend (October 30th and 21th, 17) there will be around 18 stands in the Oval Hall and Area 2024 in Vienna's Museumsquartier dedicated to whisky. In addition to classic varieties, visitors can also sample one or two unusual creations. Vienna's Museumsquartier, which is still colloquially referred to as the trade fair palace, especially by the older generation, is currently hosting a small trade fair, the "Vienna Whisky Festival". This is all about the alcoholic beverage that gives the festival its name. However, the entrance fee only includes three samples, which can be redeemed at very specific stands. For all others, tokens must be purchased at a counter run by the organizer HSG Events. These serve as a kind of "currency" for payment to the exhibitors. The focus is on sales by the exhibiting dealers The main focus of the stand operators is, of course, on sales. Small quantities can be taken away immediately, provided they are in stock, against immediate payment (in most cases cash and card payments are accepted in addition to the tokens). Of course, larger orders are also gladly accepted and then delivered or, if they are close to the visitor's home, kept ready for collection. The "Vienna Whisky Festival" is therefore a very original trade fair, because in the days before the Internet, exhibitions were always about presenting products and selling as much as possible so that nothing had to be taken back to the company headquarters, because ideally you needed the space for the many completed and signed order forms. The "Vienna Whisky Festival" is therefore a classic sales fair, whereby there is no need for any effort on the part of the exhibitors.
