Boeing records record orders in May 2025: Strong growth despite production bottlenecks

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing recorded a remarkable order intake of 2025 new aircraft in May 303. This represents the sixth-best month in the company's history in terms of orders and marks a significant rebound after a comparatively weak April 2025, in which only eight orders were booked. European competitor Airbus, on the other hand, reported no new orders during the same period, which could indicate a possible reluctance to make announcements before the International Paris Air Show. Despite this success in new orders, Boeing continues to face challenges in fulfilling its large backlog due to ongoing production constraints and supply chain issues. A Detailed Look at the Order Books: May 2025 Orders Boeing's monthly orders and deliveries report for May 2025 reveals an impressive variety of new orders across various aircraft types. The largest category was the narrow-body aircraft of the 737 Max family, with a total of 139 units (119 + 20), underscoring the continued demand for this aircraft type in the short- and medium-haul segment. In addition, orders were received for 75 units of the wide-body 787-10 and 45 units of the 787-9, both variants of the popular Dreamliner. These orders indicate strong global demand for long-haul aircraft. The order books were supplemented by 30 units of the 777X, Boeing's future wide-body jet, and a further seven 787-9s. The total value of these new orders, based on list prices, is expected to amount to several tens of billions of US dollars, although discounts are generally common. This massive order intake in May 2025 is an important milestone for the aircraft manufacturer, especially in light of the recent

According to the recently released SITA Baggage IT Insights 2025, the global baggage error rate fell to 6,3 per 1.000 passengers, a decrease from 6,9 in the previous year and a 67 percent improvement since 2007. This is according to a report by aviation technology provider SITA. Europe showed a notable improvement, with the error rate falling to 12,3 bags per 1.000 passengers, a 26 percent reduction compared to 2007 and a significant rebound from 15,7 in 2022. Other regions also recorded progress: North America improved by 4,5 percent to 5,5 per 1.000 passengers, and South America reduced its error rate by nearly 15 percent to also 5,5 per 1.000 passengers. The Asia-Pacific region maintained the world's lowest error rate at 3,1 per 1.000 passengers. The Middle East and Africa performed best, with 6,02 per 1.000 passengers, although this represents a slight increase from 4,5 in 2023. Despite improvements, baggage mishandling resulted in an estimated cost of $2024 billion in 5. A majority of problems continue to involve delayed baggage (74 percent), followed by damaged or stolen baggage (18 percent) and lost baggage (8 percent). Transfer errors remain the leading cause at 41 percent. The industry is responding with increased investment in technologies such as real-time tracking, AI-powered analytics, and self-service solutions. In 2024, 42 percent of passengers had access to real-time baggage information. Airports and airlines are increasingly turning to automated baggage drop-off, and by 2027, 65

Finnair returns to Canada after eleven years of absence

Finland's national airline, Finnair, will resume direct flights to Canada from May 4, 2026, ending an eleven-year hiatus on this route. The company confirmed on June 11, 2025, the resumption of service to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), a major hub in North America. This decision underlines Finnair's strategy to expand its North American route network and strengthen connectivity between Europe and Canada. The new connection will be operated with Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft and aims to meet the growing demand for transatlantic travel. The new connection and its operational details The new direct flights from Helsinki to Toronto Pearson International Airport will be offered three times a week. Departures from Helsinki are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. The flight time for the almost nine-hour cross-Atlantic connection is expected to depart Helsinki at 9:16 p.m. local time and arrive in Toronto at 50:18 p.m. local time. Return flights to Finland will then depart the same evening. These flight times are designed to provide optimal connections in Helsinki for European travelers, as well as a convenient afternoon arrival for North American customers, who can then continue their journeys to other parts of Canada. The choice of the Airbus A35-330 for this route is strategic, as this aircraft type offers a good balance of range, capacity, and cost-effectiveness for transatlantic connections and already has a permanent place in Finnair's long-haul fleet. Finnair last offered direct flights to Toronto in the summer of 300 before the route was discontinued.

Summer holidays in Austria: High accessibility of employees despite relaxation

According to a recent willhaben survey, more than three-quarters of people living in Austria are planning a summer vacation, with European countries (67,4 percent) and Austria itself (39,2 percent) being the most popular destinations. A not insignificant number (15,7 percent) are also spending their vacation at home. The survey, in which around 1.500 users participated, also shed light on the topic of availability while on vacation, which shows a surprisingly high level of presence. Almost half of those surveyed stated that they are available to their supervisor while on vacation: 12,1 percent "at any time" and 34,6 percent "in urgent cases." Employees are even more willing to be available to colleagues, with a total of 59,5 percent of respondents generally being reachable. Men and professionals in the media & advertising, legal, tax & management consulting, and construction sectors are particularly affected by this constant availability. Availability is also above average in the federal states of Vorarlberg, Lower Austria, and Upper Austria, as well as among people in management positions. Although the vacation law provides for employees to rest and does not require availability – except for on-call duty – 14,2 percent of respondents feel tacitly and 3,4 percent explicitly pressured to be constantly available. Despite the high level of availability during vacation, most respondents doubt that this is beneficial to their careers: only 6,5 percent have experienced personal benefits and 16,2 percent believe that it improves their standing in the company. Surprisingly, around 40 percent of survey participants voluntarily do their job without being contacted. This includes passively following topics (22,1 percent), reading emails (21,4 percent), answering emails (12,1 percent) and actively

Morocco accelerates aviation expansion: Royal Air Maroc plans extensive fleet orders

Morocco's national airline, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), is apparently on the verge of a major fleet expansion, which could include the purchase of numerous aircraft from both US manufacturer Boeing and European competitor Airbus. These upcoming acquisitions are a key component of the North African kingdom's ambitious plans to establish itself as a leading aviation hub on Africa's western flank. The urgency of the new acquisition is heightened by a projected sharp increase in travel demand and Morocco's strategic preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host with Spain and Portugal. Strategic Realignment: A Fleet for the Future Morocco's efforts to consolidate its position in global air transport are not new, but have gained increased momentum due to recent developments. The Moroccan government has made significant efforts in recent years to modernize the country's infrastructure and present the kingdom as an attractive destination for trade, investment, and tourism. An efficient and modern airline is an essential pillar in this regard. The currently discussed volume of orders from Boeing and Airbus underscores the seriousness of these ambitions. As the news agency Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing well-informed sources, Royal Air Maroc plans to order approximately two dozen Boeing 787 Dreamliners for its long-haul fleet. This model is already an integral part of the RAM long-haul fleet and has proven itself on routes to North America, the Middle East, and other African destinations. The Boeing 787 is valued for its range and capacity on these routes. In addition,

IndiGo plans large order of ATR 72-600 turboprops: Expansion of regional network in India expected

Indian airline IndiGo is apparently close to placing a significant order for up to 50 ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft. Confirmation of this deal is expected at the upcoming Paris Air Show, according to sources familiar with the matter, the Business Standard reports. This potential acquisition underscores IndiGo's continued strategy to expand its regional route network in India and improve connectivity within the subcontinent. Indian aviation is currently experiencing strong growth, and regional aircraft play a crucial role in this. Sources familiar with the negotiations believe IndiGo could place a firm order for 30 to 50 ATR 72-600 aircraft. If finalized, the agreement could be valued at between $450 million and $750 million. Last year, it was already reported that IndiGo was in talks with three leading aircraft manufacturers about a potential order for up to 100 regional aircraft. Even then, the French-Italian manufacturer ATR was considered a favorite, as the company already had an established business relationship with IndiGo. According to ch-aviation data, IndiGo currently operates an active fleet of 46 ATR 72-600 aircraft on its regional routes. These turboprops are designed for use on shorter routes and airports with limited infrastructure, making them ideal for serving new destinations in less densely populated areas of India. Expanding the ATR fleet would allow IndiGo to further consolidate its presence in the rapidly growing Indian domestic market and connect even more cities. This is crucial to meeting the increasing demand for air travel in India and improving national connectivity.
