The Cockpit Association has reacted with incomprehension to the statements made by Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa Group AG, regarding the liquidation of Lufthansa Cityline GmbH.
Spohr explained on aerotelegraph.com earlier this week that the decision to close the Lufthansa Cityline was based on a tariff restriction that prevented the use of larger aircraft with more than 95 seats. However, the pilots' union rejects this statement and stresses that it has repeatedly offered to adjust the "95-seat" rule in order to ensure the continued existence of the Lufthansa Cityline.
The Cockpit Association also criticizes the fact that the Lufthansa Group is pushing ahead with the establishment of Lufthansa City Airlines as a supposed circumvention of the existing collective bargaining regulations. It is questionable whether the operation of the new airline is permissible in accordance with the existing agreements. Dr. Marcel Gröls, head of collective bargaining policy at the Cockpit Association, emphasizes the need to avoid further uncertainty among employees at Lufthansa Cityline and advocates constructive discussions to create a long-term perspective.
