Contactless travel at Hamburg Airport

"Camera on" is the motto at Hamburg Airport with immediate effect. After a successful introductory phase, the Star Alliance's biometric visual field recognition is now officially starting there.

With the new service, participating Austrian, SWISS and Lufthansa passengers can get through the access points to the security check and boarding quickly and without contact. In the future, a single glance will suffice – without a boarding pass or smartphone.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Participants in the Miles & More loyalty program register once for Star Alliance Biometrics at least 24 hours before their next Austrian, Lufthansa or Swiss flight. To do this, they need their valid passport and the latest version of the Lufthansa app or Miles & More app. As soon as you have registered, you can go through the central security check and the boarding gates A17 and C16 at Hamburg Airport without contact.

The entrances to the gate and the fast lanes of the central security checkpoint are visibly marked. Your face is automatically captured by the camera and compared with your stored image. Travelers can keep their mouth and nose covers, which they currently have to wear in the terminal for health protection. If there is a positive match, the entrances open automatically.

"We are pleased that Lufthansa, Austrian and SWISS are now also offering Star Alliance biometric facial recognition at Hamburg Airport," says Mirjam Fröhlich, Head of Passenger and Baggage Management at Hamburg Airport. “This increases the comfort for the participating passengers at the entrance to the security check and at selected gates. The new technology enables additional time savings and ensures that the control process at central points at the airport is even more fluid - this is entirely in the interests of our passengers."
