Unprecedentedly high numbers of vacationers are causing delays at airports in the Dominican Republic. For this reason, the airport operator Aerodom has recommended that travelers should arrive at the country's airports at least three hours before their scheduled departure to ensure that all scheduled connections can be reached. The number of tourists has already exceeded the number from the pre-pandemic year 2019, as Check24 reports. This also shows that tourism in the Caribbean country is recovering noticeably. The operating company is expecting more than 600.000 travelers at Las Américas Airport alone, which is located near the capital Santo Domingo, in December.
Since the high season starts in December, the individual processes at the airports have already been strengthened, but longer waiting times at check-in and at the security check cannot be ruled out. In the main travel season, holidaymakers from Europe and North America in particular flock to the Dominican Republic to escape the winter. The local authorities have not required CoV-specific documents for entry for a long time, and there are no mandatory infection control measures in the country. Nevertheless, an online form called an e-ticket must be filled out for entry and exit, which is checked at the airport.
