On Saturday, October 12, 2024, a serious incident occurred in front of a Eurowings Europe Airbus A320 at Düsseldorf Airport. A tanker truck lost large amounts of fuel.
According to an eyewitness report, the vehicle hit a distance post and ripped open the tank. This resulted in the cargo, i.e. kerosene, leaking out. This happened in the immediate vicinity of the Airbus A320 operated by Eurowings Europe with the registration 9H-EUO.
At the time of the accident, the passengers who wanted to fly to Salzburg were already on board the medium-haul jet. For safety reasons, they were asked to leave the 9H-EUO. The plane was not moved at first because of the kerosene that had leaked out of the tanker. The affected passengers will be taken to their destination on the 9H-EUT, but the departure will be delayed by at least two hours.
Such incidents are fortunately rare, but they are certainly dangerous, as kerosene is flammable and, given the obviously considerable amount that leaked out of the damaged tanker, the airport fire service must first bind or remove the fuel. Fire engines are also kept on standby purely as a precaution.
