The Lufthansa Group and Lilium have signed a letter of intent to establish a strategic partnership for the operation of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) in Europe.

The companies want to explore innovation opportunities in aviation and discuss areas such as ground and flight operations, future aircraft maintenance as well as crew and aviation training. In a possible strategic partnership, both companies also want to analyze the opportunities for collaboration with third parties such as airports and regional partners, for example in the further development of the infrastructure (e.g. vertiports), airspace integration and the design of necessary operating processes.

“Innovation is part of our DNA. The Lufthansa Group aims to be a global leader in integrating state-of-the-art products and processes. We want to further develop aviation and drive the transformation of the industry. This declaration of intent with Lilium will make an important contribution to this. Only with innovation, courage and determination can we work together as an industry to make aviation more sustainable and overcome the challenges of the future,” explains Lufthansa board member Detlef Kayser.
