The low-cost airline Easyjet will build a new maintenance hangar on the area of Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. This should be completed by August 2023. Afterwards, machines of the A320 series are looked after here.

An official statement put the cost of the project at around 20 million euros. The building application documents have been submitted and are currently in the approval phase. The investment project at BER will be the first Easyjet hangar outside of Great Britain. In this, the company will carry out extensive maintenance and repair work as part of the light base maintenance. The hangar hall should provide space for work on four aircraft up to the size of the Airbus A321 at the same time.

“After 17 years of constant commitment, we remain connected to the capital region as the home airline. The investment in our first continental European hangar underlines the strategic importance of our base for the Easyjet network and the close cooperation with the Berlin Brandenburg airport company. After we opened our maintenance station in 2020, the construction of the hangar is now the logical next step and a sign of the future viability of our location at BER ”, says Germany boss Stephan Erler.

Easyjet opened the first line maintenance station outside of Great Britain at BER in the summer of 2020. As part of line maintenance, work is carried out on the aircraft during operation and directly on the apron.

“Easyjet's decision to make a major investment at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt is a clear sign that BER is an attractive location for strong international brands in the aviation industry. The choice is also a clear signal for the region, because it shows how attractive the business location is for foreign investors. We are very pleased that Easyjet has chosen Germany and BER for their first maintenance hangar outside the UK. We would like to thank our partner Easyjet for their great confidence in the location and the associated appreciation for our long cooperation, ”explains BER boss Engelbert Lütke Daldrup.
