The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings Discover will increase the wages of flight attendants and pilots on September 1, 2022. According to the company in a media statement, this is due to the positive market development and high demand in the tourism sector.

To the annoyance of the unions, Eurowings Discover has not yet had a collective agreement. According to the company, the salaries of pilots in the previous salary levels are to be increased by a double-digit percentage. As in the past, classification is based on flown block hours.

In the dressing room, the previous salary levels will also be increased by almost double digits. The allowance for responsible cabin managers (pursers) will also be increased. Furthermore, the staff should be granted a one-time payment. According to its own information, both the pilots and the flight attendants have been offered permanent contracts since November 2021. This will continue, and Eurowings Discover will also be hiring indefinitely in the cockpit this year.

“Eurowings Discover was set up during the most severe crisis in aviation, in which it was not possible to make any reliable predictions about the development of the market and demand. The salary structures also had to reflect this fact. It was always clear to us that we would make adjustments in the medium term and we are pleased that the now forecast boom summer gives us the opportunity to do so. This means that Eurowings Discover will continue to be an attractive and competitive employer in the future,” explains Wolfgang Raebiger, CEO of Eurowings Discover. "It's nice to see that we were able to work out these extensive changes in such a short time and in a joint dialogue with our designated persons of trust in the cockpit and cabin and that we were already able to get them underway. Ever since we were founded, we have placed great value on close communication with our employees, fast decision-making and action paths, and the greatest possible flexibility. The best conditions for further growth and success of our airline".
