Bundesrat: Lower Saxony application against flight ticket advance payment rejected

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The state government of Lower Saxony wanted to submit a motion for a resolution to the federal government via the Bundesrat, which should end the current practice of paying in advance for flight tickets. The initiative was unsuccessful, however, because the matter did not find a majority in the state chamber.

Consumer advocates and individual politicians repeatedly criticize the fact that flight tickets sometimes have to be paid for in full long in advance, but that refunds and customer service in the event of cancellations are sometimes complicated. Lower Saxony wanted to ensure that in the future, payment would only have to be made on the day of departure, for example at the check-in counter. Most of the representatives of the other federal states saw things differently, because the application was not accepted.
