Fire alarm technology: BER is getting additional cameras

Additional cameras are to be installed at the new BER airport in the capital to avoid false alarms from the fire alarm system.

Corresponding tests with additional reporting technology will begin this month, as a company spokesman for the German press agency announced. Four weeks ago, a problem with one of the fire alarm systems in the main terminal became known. Sensors with laser technology occasionally triggered false alarms when the sun fell into the main pier at a certain angle. The affected areas had to be cleared.

The fire brigade can now use the new cameras to check the situation in the event of a pre-alarm so that evacuation can be avoided in the event of a false alarm, as it was said. The solution is to work closely with the supervisory authorities and other responsible bodies. The company emphasized that all steps would be determined together.

Since the beginning of March, the sensors in question have been switched off for around an hour in the late afternoon every day - when the sun is so low that false alarms are possible. However, the operators emphasized that additional systems always ensured seamless fire monitoring throughout the terminal. In addition, trained security staff kept a close eye on the areas.
