Just a few years ago, a new cable car and two new chair lifts were built in Berchtesgadener Land at a cost of 57 million euros, including ten million euros. Now the operator is throwing in the towel and wants to close the ski area forever.

The main reason for the decision is said to be that operations are becoming increasingly difficult due to climate change and that fewer and fewer guests are coming. According to a report by Bayerischer Rundfunk, there is strong criticism because between 2017 a cable car and two chair lifts were built and some slopes were expanded. The Free State of Bavaria is said to have subsidized this with around ten million euros.

It is currently planned that after the lift operations have finally ceased, the cable cars will be dismantled and sold. The Berchtesgadener Land is losing one of the most important tourist attractions on the Jenner.
