With the words "Guided food tours, mobile children's kitchen, creations from the food innovation scene and a culinary pampering program", the Food & Life trade fair in Munich announces a wealth of gourmet experiences for autumn 2024. From November 27 to December 1, 2024, the Munich exhibition center will be transformed into a mecca for gourmets and nutrition-conscious people.

With over 200 exhibitors presenting hand-crafted delicacies from various European regions, the trade fair offers a wide range of culinary highlights. Whether traditional delicacies from Bavaria or innovative food products from start-ups - there is something for everyone here.

Experience the culinary diversity

Food & Life, which has established itself as one of Germany's leading gourmet fairs, offers visitors not only the opportunity to discover regional and handcrafted products, but also to gain deeper insights into the production and origin of these products. A special attraction this year is the introduction of the so-called Schmankerl tours.

These guided tours, organized in collaboration with the "Weis(s)er Stadtvogel", lead participants through the exhibition hall and offer the opportunity to sample regional delicacies at various stations. Participants learn background information about the producers and the production processes of the specialties on offer. The tours promise an experience for all the senses and highlight the appreciation for local and traditional food production.

Focus on regional production

Food & Life places particular emphasis on promoting regional products and sustainable production. Many of the exhibiting companies rely on local ingredients and traditional production methods. This is also evident from the participation of the Munich Nutrition Council, which advocates fairly produced and affordable food from ecological and species-appropriate production. The Nutrition Council will be represented at the trade fair and will provide information about its various projects, which aim to make sustainable nutrition accessible to everyone.

Another highlight in the area of sustainable nutrition is the participation of Slowfood Munich, who will be there with their "Slow Mobile". In this mobile children's kitchen, children aged five to twelve can learn how to prepare delicious dishes such as pasta or muffins from fresh, regional ingredients. This offer aims to sensitize children to healthy eating at an early age and to teach them the joy of cooking.

Innovation meets tradition: The Food Start.up Area

While the trade fair relies heavily on regional traditions on the one hand, it also offers space for innovative ideas on the other. In the "Food Start.up Area", 20 young companies present their latest creations and face an expert jury that will select the "Foodchanger 2024". This award recognizes the most creative and forward-looking products from start-ups. A prime example of the success of such start-ups is "Möhrengrün". The company, which specializes in vegetarian mince, has already made a name for itself at the trade fair in 2022 and will be presenting its products again this year. The opportunity to try the innovative products on site makes visiting the trade fair particularly attractive for consumers and supports the start-ups in their market launch.

Culinary program on the cooking stage

The Food & Life cooking stage invites you not only to try, but also to be amazed. Here, prominent chefs and experts present their skills and share tips and tricks with the audience. Veronique Witzigmann, daughter of the famous star chef Eckart Witzigmann, will give insights into her sweet world and present recipes from her current book on November 27 and 28, 2024. International and cultural diversity is provided by the cabaret artist Luise Kinseher, alias Mama Bavaria, who will prepare Afghan dishes together with the amateur chef Imraan Safi on November 27 and tell the story of Safi's escape from Afghanistan.

On the last day of the fair, December 1, 2024, Angela Barzen's live podcast "Big Pictures" will offer inspiring stories and conversations with courageous people who are distinguished by their special life paths. The program will be rounded off by Antje de Vries, an expert in sustainable cuisine, who will also present her cooking skills live on December 1, 2024.

Important information about visiting the trade fair

Food & Life takes place in Hall A4 at the Munich Exhibition Center and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 18:00 p.m. The "Heim+Handwerk" trade fair, which shows everything to do with living, lifestyle and handicrafts, is also taking place at the same time as Food & Life. Visitors can visit both trade fairs with a combined ticket and discover an even wider range of interesting topics. Tickets for the trade fairs are available online from October, with special discounts for schoolchildren, students and pensioners. Children up to and including 12 years of age have free entry.

The importance of Food & Life for the region Since its founding, Food & Life has developed into an important event for the regional and national food scene. The trade fair not only offers a platform for producers to present their products to a broad audience, but also promotes exchange between consumers, producers and experts. By combining traditional craftsmanship and modern innovations, Food & Life helps to raise awareness of sustainable and high-quality food. The trade fair sets an example for the appreciation of regional products and shows that enjoyment and sustainability can go hand in hand.
