The airport operator again handled significantly more passengers at Frankfurt Airport in January, but the recovery in demand has slowed down due to the rapid spread of the Omikron variant.

In total, around 2,2 million passengers were handled at the hub, a good 150 percent more, as Fraport announced in a broadcast. The volume of cargo recorded a slight decrease of 0,9 percent to 174.753 tons in January (plus 7,0 percent compared to January 2019). The number of flight movements, on the other hand, rose by 86,7 percent to 24.639 take-offs and landings. At around 1,7 million tons, the total maximum take-off weight increased by 56,8 percent (compared to January 2021 in each case).

The positive development in passenger numbers continued at the international locations. The majority of the Group airports have achieved significant growth of over one hundred percent in some cases compared to the sharply reduced air traffic in January 2021. The airport in Xi'an is an exception, the number of passengers fell by 92,3 percent to 173.139 due to the strict lockdown in the Chinese city.
