Fraport USA, the US subsidiary of Fraport AG, has been awarded the contract to manage the retail space at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). The new contract was signed between Fraport Baltimore Partnership LLC, a majority-owned subsidiary of Fraport USA, and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), which operates the airport. The contract has a term of 23 years.

Fraport USA's new management program includes the comprehensive redesign of the retail space and the tendering of all commercial concessions. A total of around 18.000 square meters of commercial space are available at BWI. Fraport USA has been operating at the airport since 2004 and has continuously improved the passenger experience through innovative concepts during this time. Sabine Trenk, CEO of Fraport USA, emphasized that the focus is on creating a first-class environment with a strong local identity. The goal is to offer passengers a unique and authentic experience, which also includes close cooperation with local, regional and international providers.

In 2023, more than 26 million passengers used BWI, making the airport the busiest airport in the Washington, DC region. Fraport USA is a leading provider of retail and hospitality concepts at U.S. airports and serves major airports such as Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy, Washington Dulles, Ronald Reagan National, Cleveland Hopkins and Nashville International in addition to BWI.
