The Republic of Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany want to improve cross-border airspace security. To this end, the defense ministers of the two countries signed a new agreement.
This is intended to improve the exchange of information between the authorities of both countries. Specifically, it is about possibly suspicious civilian aircraft that are to be monitored by military aircraft across borders for security reasons. This means that Austrian fighter jets are allowed to continue the pursuit in Germany and vice versa German ones in Austrian airspace. However, interventions, such as shooting down, are still excluded.
