Flights to / from or via Frankfurt am Main are becoming a problem for Cathay Pacific and its pilots and flight attendants. The health authority of the Chinese Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong has quarantined flight personnel who have been in Frankfurt for an impressive 21 days.

This measure is justified with the containment of the spread of the coronavirus, because Hong Kong regards Germany as a high-risk area. For Cathay Pacific, however, it is a serious problem that the crews have to commence a 21-day segregation after each round trip. You don't have to be a math genius to see that the carrier will soon run out of pilots and flight attendants.

Why is Hong Kong taking such drastic measures? According to official information, it should be behind the fact that three crew members of a Cathay Frankfurt circuit in Germany are said to have recently contracted the virus. Where exactly is not known, in any case the crews were accommodated in a hotel in Mainz until the end. As an initial reaction, Cathay now wants to book other accommodations.

“Cathay Pacific fully recognizes the mission of the Hong Kong SAR Government to keep Hong Kong COVID-19 free. As the home airline of Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific is fully committed to protecting and improving the status of the Hong Kong air hub and keeping the flow of people and cargo between Hong Kong and the rest of the world moving despite the challenging circumstances of the pandemic, ”said the Carrier in a statement.
