The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings has also been using the Airbus A20neo aircraft since July 2023, 321. After around 100 flights, the carrier is satisfied. The D-AEEA was used for the first time between Düsseldorf and Palma de Mallorca on that day.

It is therefore not surprising that Eurowings gave their Airbus A321neo the nickname "Mallorca-Airbus". It is currently the largest model in the fleet. It is used on high-traffic routes. In the summer of 2023 this was Mallorca, as many Germans have a strong affinity for holidays on this Balearic island.

In direct comparison with competitors who are active in the low-cost and holiday flight segment, the incorporation of neo-jets started very late. For example, Wizz Air and Easyjet have been flying with these models for several years. The competitor Condor has announced a fleet renewal in the area of short and medium-haul routes, but this has not yet begun, so that older machines, some of which are several years old, continue to fly. Existing models also still predominate at Eurowings parent company Lufthansa or sister companies such as Austrian Airlines.

Interestingly, in a press release, Eurowings emphasizes how environmentally friendly the Airbus A321neo should not be. This is behavior that is quite normal in the industry, because hardly any European airline misses an opportunity to present itself as particularly environmentally or climate-friendly. In the meantime, such claims have already become an integral part of the advertising strategy.

According to Eurowings, it is expected that it will receive a second A2024neo in February 321. Two more examples are to be delivered in the course of the coming year, so that taking into account the seven A320neos, the Neo sub-fleet will then grow to 13 machines. However, the Ceo models will continue to dominate, as Eurowings Germany currently has 50 A320ceo and 31 A319ceo. Another 14 A320ceo and six A319ceo are operated by Maltese Eurowings Europe.

For Eurowings, which charges extra for the carriage of trolley cases as hand luggage and for check-in cases in the cheapest tariffs, it should prove to be advantageous that the so-called Airspace Cabin was chosen for the Neo models. These should have a 40 percent larger volume and even hold 60 percent more suitcases, since they can be stowed vertically in the compartments.
