The financial situation of the Mexican airline Interjet is getting worse. The carrier announced that all flights up to and including January 31, 2021 will be canceled. In addition, the tour operator “Interjet Vacations”, operated by a partner, filed for bankruptcy.
According to local media, the carrier has arrears with its employees and is said to have amassed millions in debt with state authorities. Interjet has been on the ground since December 11, 2020 and has not yet resumed flight operations. The carrier justifies this with the corona pandemic.
Meanwhile, there is strong resistance on the part of the union, because it is now giving the management an ultimatum: If the outstanding wages are not paid in full by January 8, 2021, the workforce will go on an indefinite strike.
