With the YI-ATC, Iraqi Airways takes delivery of the first of a total of ten Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order. The first unit was assembled at the Charleston site and will shortly be transferred to Iraq.
The carrier also celebrated the event on social media by sharing photos showing the long-haul aircraft in Iraqi Airways livery. In the next few days they want to communicate the exact date for the delivery flight. In total, the airline has ordered ten Dreamliners: nine 787-8s and one aircraft from the larger 787 variant, the -9. All ten aircraft are powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines.
The Baghdad-based carrier currently has a fleet of 36 aircraft. However, 18 of these are not in use. Some of the planes are getting old. For this reason, too, the first four Airbus A220s were recently put into scheduled service. Another copy is to be delivered soon. Iraqi Airways has also ordered 15 Boeing 737-Max.
