ITA Airways leaves SkyTeam – transfer to Lufthansa Group takes shape

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Italian airline ITA Airways, which was recently integrated into the Lufthansa Group, has announced its withdrawal from the SkyTeam airline alliance. The full exit will take place on April 30, 2024. In cooperation with SkyTeam, a smooth transition phase will be ensured in order to minimize the impact on passengers and partners.

With the exit, ITA Airways is ending its cooperation with previous alliance partners such as Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines. Customers who have used frequent flyer programs or codeshare benefits will have to prepare for changes. The airline is expected to switch to the Star Alliance, which Lufthansa is also a member of, but there is no official confirmation of this yet.

The integration into the Lufthansa Group is part of a strategic realignment of the Italian airline. Through close cooperation with Lufthansa, ITA Airways will further strengthen its market position in Europe and on long-haul routes. The transition will take place gradually, with existing agreements with SkyTeam partners being gradually adjusted.
