Italian union threatens strike at Air Dolomiti

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Italian union Uiltrasporti is threatening the Lufthansa subsidiary Air Dolomiti with a pilots' strike. The employer is asked to comply with contractual obligations and, in particular, with the rest periods that are due. If the management does not give in, a strike will be called for March 17, 2023.

However, the possible impact on Air Dolomiti's flight operations is likely to be within very narrow limits, since the vast majority of flying personnel are now stationed outside of Italy. For example, the carrier has bases in Munich and Frankfurt am Main, from which you can travel both under your own EN code and under a wet lease for Lufthansa. Those Air Dolomiti employees who are not employed in Italy do not have Italian employment contracts and therefore the Uiltrasporti union is not responsible for them.

In recent years, the presence of the Lufthansa subsidiary on the Italian market has been greatly reduced. For example, the inner-Italian routes were abandoned and the company operates almost exclusively as a feeder to the hubs in Frankfurt am Main and Munich. Whether this will change if Ita Airways is taken over by the Kranich Group is completely open.
