The state-owned Italia Trasporto Aereo is currently in the evaluation phase of long-term fleet planning. Airbus and Boeing are hoping for orders. But the Europeans should be ahead of the curve.
Accordingly, a 5,3 billion order for 81 machines, which are to be delivered over four years, could be imminent. The ITA management should apparently let Airbus get involved, reports Corriere della Sera. The Alitalia successor is to be launched on October 15, 2021 with an aircraft that is currently in Alitalia's fleet. The target fleet of ITA is provisionally 52 machines.
This is to be expanded or renewed to 2025 units by around 105. At least 81 aircraft are said to come from the latest generation.
The future of the Embraer sub-fleet operated by Alitalia Cityliner is also unclear. It is currently expected in Italy that this could be shut down in the course of the switch to ITA. The management of the new state airline wants to concentrate on one manufacturer and that could become Airbus.
