JP Pancakes: The Time-Out Pancake Kidnapping in Vienna

JP Pancakes: The Time-Out Pancake Kidnapping in Vienna

Small but nice: A new Japanese restaurant has been waiting in the heart of the Austrian capital Vienna since mid-June 2024. If you want to treat yourself to a culinary break during the week, you can treat yourself to a "Japanese vacation" in this "oasis" for a few hours. We are talking about "JP Pancakes" at Drahtgasse 2, 1010 Vienna.

The soufflé pancakes, the restaurant's highlights, are prepared within sight of the guests and can be personalized as desired. The pink ambience and the cherry blossom trees make you forget the outside world. Vegetarians also get their money's worth, as the Japanese restaurant also scores with an extensive meat-free selection. As a lactose- and gluten-free gourmet, you will feel right at home.

The menu seems well thought out. Both drinks and food are served to guests as unique works of art. Just looking at the dishes will make you plan your next visit with great enthusiasm. Whether it's avocado or salmon or halloumi bagel, you can't go wrong. The portion sizes of the food and drinks are extremely generous. JP Pancakes is fairly priced: for example, a "Nordic Delight Omlette" (salmon, vegetables, hollandaise sauce and rocket) costs 0 euros.

From homemade lemonade and detox water to sparkling wine and prosecco, all drinks are served in a visually appealing way. If you want to treat yourself to a strawberry or tiramisu latte with almond, oat or cow's milk, this is the place for you. Every coffee lover will be extremely satisfied with their choice of drink.

All allergens are clearly labelled on the menu using letters and explained in a legend. This should actually be a given, as it is required by law, but some restaurateurs in Vienna still do not comply with it.

JP Pancakes also offers vegans a very good selection: for example, vegan salmon is also on the menu. If you want to eat fresh and crispy Nicoise salad, you've come to the right place. It costs 14,90 euros in this restaurant. The food and drink menu consists of just two A4 sheets of paper. This strongly suggests that the operators place much more value on quality than quantity.

Conclusion: Recommendation for work-life balance

I personally tried the salmon spinach pancake, the salmon avocado bagel, the detox water and a cappuccino and came away from the experience with a big smile.

One critical point to note is that finding the toilet in this restaurant is not exactly easy. It's like a free workout, because although it's in the same building, it's not exactly close to the restaurant and it's not particularly well signposted.
