An Embraer 145 operated by United Nigeria Airlines has skidded off the runway at Lagos Airport. The machine was en route from Abakaliki to Murtala Muhammed International Airport on May 31, 2023. All passengers and crew members were able to exit the regional jet unharmed.

According to United Nigeria Airlines, the plane landed safely at Lagos Airport, but the ERJ-145 then skidded and came to rest off the runway. For safety reasons, the airport fire brigade came immediately, but this was purely a precautionary measure, as no fire broke out. From available photos, the authenticity of which has been neither confirmed nor denied by the carrier, an ERJ-145 can be seen on a grassy area of Lagos Airport.

"United Nigeria would like to reassure the public that flight operations are carried out in compliance with the strictest safety standards and that the safety of passengers is a priority at all times," emphasizes the Nigerian airline.

The passengers and crew members were able to exit the regional jet unharmed and were then taken to the terminal. The company emphasizes, among other things, that the luggage was also handed over to the travelers in the check-in hall.

The said Embraer 145 was then freed from its predicament with the help of towing vehicles and trucks. The machine was placed in a hangar and was examined more closely by technicians. The civil aviation authority of Nigeria has instructed the local aviation accident authority FAAN to start an investigation.
