In the winter, flight attendants can in future be sent on unpaid leave. If approval is not given by Thursday, the Spanish base is threatened with closure.
After Vienna, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, the airline Lauda is now also turning the wage screw in Palma de Mallorca with flying staff. They don't have a collective agreement there, which is why employees were asked to give their consent by June 18, 2020. In the letter from the management it is stated that if the new conditions are accepted, Ryanair could book wet lease services with Lauda. Otherwise, the Palma base will be closed.
In order to be able to convince the parent company that Lauda will continue to provide ACMI services for Ryanair from Palma de Mallorca, it is necessary to reduce costs, according to Round Discs. If this does not succeed by June 18, 2020, Ryanair or other sister companies would take over the flights from Palma themselves. In this case, the Spanish Lauda base would have to be closed. You also have an overhang of crews, because due to the reduced flight schedule you only need three instead of five crews per aircraft.
The “savings offer” for the Spaniards includes, among other things, that the rosters will be converted to the Ryanair standard “fly five days, three days off”. The number of vacation days is de facto reduced from 34 to 25, because nine days are deducted as part of the raster. The pay of the flight attendants jumps back to the level of the first year of service and there will no longer be any membership-related increases for juniors. For Seniors, the table ends with the fourth year of service. Per flight hour, 8,20 euros are paid in addition to the basic salary. Salaries are to be paid out twelve times a year in future, with no losses according to the management.
Specifically, salaries in Palma should be designed as follows:
Base salary for junior flight attendants: 1.283 Euro per month
Base salary for senior flight attendants: 1.845 Euro per month
Base salary for senior flight attendants from the fourth year of service: 1.890 euros per month
Remuneration per block hour: 8,20 Euros
Allowance per day of vacation (Juniors): 18 Euros
Allowance per day of vacation (Seniors): 24 Euros
From the point of view of those affected, however, it is particularly spicy that the current open-ended employment contracts can be converted into seasonal contracts. As a result, the flight attendants can be "turned off" for four months in winter without payment. Specifically, this concerns the period from November to March. Lauda reserves the right to “unpaid leaves” here.
The contract, to which the crews in Palma de Mallorca are to give their approval by Thursday, also contains an unequivocal indication that the Boeing 737 is imminent. It is pointed out several times that the agreement applies to all types of aircraft.
