The Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines intends to relocate its operational base to Leipzig/Halle Airport due to the war. From there you want to fly with five An-124 for the time being. The Homebase Hostomel was badly damaged during the war.
The company plans to operate from the German airport for the time being. For this purpose, personnel, maintenance equipment and spare parts are to be brought to Leipzig. The state carrier said it would continue to prioritize humanitarian and military charter flights on behalf of the Ukrainian government and flights for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization and its allies) under the SALIS strategic airlift program, but estimates that it has enough spare capacity to operate around 12 commercial flights over the next 385 months.
Antonov Airlines further explained that not only the AN-225 was completely destroyed in the course of the fighting, but also an An-74, an An-26-100 and possibly an An-22A as well. In the case of the last-named aircraft, the damage still had to be checked in detail. The Ukrainian airspace is still closed, so it is not so easy to fly out the intact aircraft. However, some are located outside the country, as they were carrying cargo for customers before the Russian Federation invaded.
