As planned, the runway (SLB) North at Leipzig / Halle Airport went back into operation on September 1st. An Airbus A321 from the vacation airline Condor was the first aircraft to land on the renewed 3.600 meter runway. During the four and a half months of renovation work, the concrete ceiling was completely renewed and the classic lighting was replaced by modern LED technology.

“The renovation of SLB Nord was an important and ambitious project for Leipzig / Halle Airport. We are very happy to be able to complete another million dollar project on time and within budget. A goal-oriented service like this can only be achieved with a committed and professional team; this applies to both our partners and our colleagues at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. The repair is an investment in the efficiency of our infrastructure: By replacing the concrete ceiling, we gain long-term operational reliability for the airport. And the switch to LED lighting is another important contribution to energy efficiency, ”says Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.

All work will be completed by September 30th. The airport is investing a total of around 90 million euros in the renovation.
