Lufthansa has not yet been able to formally take over any of the five Boeing 787-9s, but the group has announced that the first unit will be registered as D-ABPA. The long-haul jet is to be christened “Berlin”.

A ceremonial christening of the Dreamliner has been announced for the coming year. However, when exactly is not yet known. In any case, the first flight is to be carried out in the direction of Toronto. It has been a tradition at Lufthansa since 1960 that aircraft are named after German cities: Willy Brandt named a Boeing 707 “Berlin” for the first time. Most recently, an Airbus A380 with the identification D-AIMI carried the prestigious name.
