The Lufthansa subsidiary Ocean, which is controversial among trade unionists, will in future operate under the “Eurowings Discover” brand. The company name of Ocean GmbH is to be changed shortly, reports the Airliners.de portal.
The company will fly under the IATA code "4Y" and is scheduled to take off in summer 2021 with initially three Airbus A330s. Lufthansa explains that due to various legal regulations it is necessary for Ocean to be given a corresponding name that refers to Eurowings. It is not yet possible to estimate how further expansion will develop. This depends on the progress of the pandemic.
According to Lufthansa, the machines operated by Eurowings Discover should also have the appropriate addition. It is not yet clear in which form this will be attached or whether the aircraft will even get a separate livery.
The project is massively controversial because there is no collective agreement. The German trade unions therefore accuse wages of dumping and flight from collective bargaining agreements. The company is looking for employees across the Group and is also offering AUA flight attendants, for example, that they can take leave to fly for Eurowings Discover. The employee representatives also criticize the fact that almost all planned routes are also operated by Condor and that the agreement on feeder flights has been terminated. Since both companies were rescued by the German state, the trade unions are demanding that state aid not be used for cut-throat competition. Condor recently brought one Complaint to the German Federal Cartel Office .
