Next summer, the new virtual airline Mannheim City Air will start operations and launch several routes from Mannheim. The successor to the insolvent Rhein-Neckar Air announced that it will be offering regular flights to the Italian island of Elba from May 8, 2025. Two connections per week are planned during the season, although there will only be one weekly connection from July 10 to August 21. In addition, flights to Heringsdorf on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom will be offered from May 10 to October 4, also once a week.
Another highlight in the regional airline's summer flight schedule is the connection to Sylt. From April 19, 2025, Mannheim City Air will fly to Sylt twice a week. In the high season, from April 30 to October 1, the route will even be served three times a week. According to the current state of affairs, Private Wings will take over operational operations.
The new virtual airline is taking over the business model of Rhein-Neckar Air, which had to file for bankruptcy at the beginning of November 2024. The reason was the insolvency of an unnamed tour operator. Despite these financial difficulties, the concept remains unchanged: Mannheim City Air continues to focus on popular holiday destinations such as Elba and Sylt and uses Dornier Do328 aircraft from Private Wings.
