May 2023: Ice Hockey World Cup boosted Air Baltic passenger numbers

In May 2023, the airline Air Baltic was able to benefit greatly from the increased demand due to the Ice Hockey World Cup. The carrier had 437.000 passengers on board. This means that 53 percent more passengers were transported than in the same month last year.

The number of flight movements increased by 20 percent. Company President Martin Gauss: “The summer season is in full swing and we are already seeing an increase in the number of passengers choosing Air Baltic as their preferred airline. This is largely because we recently added 20 new routes from all four bases. In addition, the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and the additional flights between Riga and Tampere played an important role - so the fans had the opportunity to support the Latvian ice hockey team, which proudly won the bronze medal".
